Constantine Samuel, amerik. Botaniker, geb. 1784 zu Galacz, kam 1802 nach Philadelphia [* 2] und machte große botan. Exkursionen durch Pennsylvanien und Delaware, lebte von 1805 bis 1815 in Sicilien und wurde 1818 Professor der Botanik an der Transylvania University zu Lexington (Kentucky). Er starb zu Philadelphia. Seine wichtigsten Werke sind: «New flora and botany of America» (4 Bde., Philad. 1836),
«Flora telluriana» (4 Bde., 1836),
«Sylva telluriana» (1838),
«Alsographia americana» (1838) u. a. Seine «Complete writings on recent and fossil conchology» erschienen 1864. –
