Creighton
(spr. kräht'n), Mandell, engl. Geschichtschreiber, geb. 5. Juli 1843 zu Carlisle, studierte in Oxford und wurde 1866 Professor der Geschichte daselbst, 1867 Pfarrer in Embleton in Northumberland, 1884 Professor der Kirchengeschichte in Cambridge. Die Universität Glasgow ernannte ihn 1883 zum Doktor der Theologie und 1885 zum Doktor der Rechte. Er schrieb: »Primes of Roman history« (Lond. 1875); »The age of Elisabeth« (1876); »The life of Simon of Montfort« (1876); »The Tudors and the reformation« (1877); »Primes of English history« (1877); »History of the papacy during the period of the reformation« (1882-87,4 Bde.); »The life of Cardinal Wolsey« (1888) u. a. Auch redigiert er seit 1886 die Zeitschrift: »English Historical Review«.
