(spr. sklehter), Philipp Lutley, Zoolog, geb. 1829, studierte in Oxford [* 2] die Rechte, fungierte seit 1855 an Lincoln's Inn, ward 1859 Sekretär [* 3] der Londoner Zoological Society und wandte sich mehr und mehr den Naturwissenschaften, speziell der Ornithologie, zu. Er veröffentlichte: »Catalogue of American birds« (Lond. 1862),
»Zoological sketches« (das. 1861-62, 2 Bde.),
»Jacamars and puffbirds« (»Galbulidae and Buconidae«, das. 1880),
»Guide to the gardens of the Zoological Society of London« [* 4] und redigierte die erste Serie der »Ibis« sowie die »Natural History Review«. 1877-82 war er Generalsekretär der Association for the advancement of science.
