(spr. wudd), Mrs. Henry, engl. Romanschriftstellerin, Tochter des Fabrikanten Thomas Price in Worcester, geb. 1814, heiratete früh Henry einen Schiffsmakler, und starb in London. [* 3] Ihr erster Roman «Danesbury House» erschien 1860. «East Lynne» (1861) machte sie dem größern Publikum bekannt und wurde von keinem ihrer zahlreichen Romane übertroffen. Rasch nacheinander veröffentlichte sie hierauf «The Channings» und «Mrs. Halliburton’s troubles», «William Allair», «Verner’s Pride», «Trevlyn Hold», «Mildred Arkell», «A life’s secret», «Roland Yorke», «Dene Hollow», «Within the maze», «Edina», «Court Netherley», «About ourselves» u. s. w. Auch schrieb sie eine Anzahl Romane unter dem Pseudonym Johnny Ludlow. Sie war 1867‒87 Herausgeberin der litterar. Monatsschrift «The Argosy».
